The Art Prompt: Create a composition that complements Nikko’s piece and answers the question,“Who inspires your creativity?

This is your chance to create a collaborative piece of art alongside Nikko Washington. For this project, Nikko created a mural inspired by the question, “Who inspires your creativity?”. To participate in this project…

  1. Look at Nikko’s artwork below to get inspired

  2. Think about the prompt question: “Who inspires your creativity"?”

  3. Create an portrait of the person (or people) who inspire your creativity. You can mirror Nikko’s composition to '“draw his piece in your style”, or you can create an entirely different composition inspired by the same prompt that he followed to create his piece

For 3 artists who are selected by Nikko as his top 3 favorite favorite submissions, you will be invited to have your artwork released alongside his work in an NFT. Consider how your pieces can complement each other!

Submissions due: December 31, 2022

2 options for how to collaborate with Nikko:

  • “Draw this in your style”: Take Nikko’s mural, and recreate it with your own personal spin. You could recreate the same image in your style, or change the characters to represent yourself and the person who inspires you.

  • OR create a totally new composition that shows the person or people who inspire your creativity. Draw, paint, sculpt, or photograph a portrait of the person (or people) who have inspired you over the course of your life to become an artist.

Nikko Washington will review the submissions and choose his favorites

Nikko’s favorite pieces will be displayed in a gallery on the Play Together website forever.

Nikko’s Top 3 favorite pieces will be invited to create an NFT with him and receive a $500 scholarship.

The process

  1. Create your own piece of original artwork inspired by Nikko’s artwork

  2. Submit your artwork through this webpage. Click the button above that says “Upload your Artwork”.

  3. Nikko Washington will review each submission alongside the Play Together team on December 1st and select his favorites

  4. He will select up to 30 of his favorite pieces to appear in an online gallery with him, hosted on the Play Together website.

  5. Nikko’s top 3 favorite pieces will be turned into an NFT that features your art alongside his art, and receive a scholarship.

    • If selected, you will receive an email letting you know he’d like to make an NFT with you.

    • You’ll be asked to give your approval to move forward to produce an NFT using your artwork.

    • All costs for producing the NFTs will be covered by Play Together.

    • If the NFT is sold, proceeds will support the non-profit work of Play Together to help fund arts education programs in Chicago.

    • If you are one of the top 3 selected pieces, you (or your family if you are underage) will receive a $500 scholarship to support your education and arts career.
